Dr. Peter Blauner grew up
in rural Long Island where the roots of his love for horses and veterinary
medicine began. Dr. Blauner makes his home in Gwynedd Valley
with his wife, Mary, two labrador retrievers, a cat and numerous finches. He and
Mary currently own six horses.
Dr. Blauner graduated from the University of Connecticut,
summa cum laude
in
pre-veterinary medicine. He then went on to the University of Pennsylvania and
graduated in 1981.
After working as an associate at the Steinbach Veterinary Hospital for a
year, Dr. Blauner started his own practice in 1982. In the not too distant
future he will be celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of his veterinary
career .
Dr. Blauner's veterinary interests include sports medicine and
performance
horse problems, particularly as they relate to lameness in the athletic horse.
As
a licensed pilot, Dr. Blauner is able to fly anywhere in the country to
check out
the " perfect " horse you may have an interest in purchasing.
Dr. Blauner is an American Farriers Association certified farrier and has
been
shoeing his own horses for the past ten years. He is certified as an FEI,
Federation
Equestre Internationale, official veterinarian qualified in the
disciplines of
show jumping, dressage and three day eventing.
Dr. Blauner's equestrian pursuits include a passion for fox hunting as
well as
three day eventing and occasional forays into racing over fences. The highlight
of his three day career was winning the highest placed amateur rider award at
the
Fairhill International Advanced Three Day Event held during the Pan Am Games.
Outside of horses, Dr. Blauner keeps a large productive organic garden,
enjoys fly fishing, is a licensed private pilot and is a beekeeper as well.
