Dr. Joanne Vecchione was raised in a small town in southeastern
Pennsylvania, the middle child in a family of eight. Her family includes
two sisters and five brothers. She currently lives on a small farm near
Green Lane, Pennsylvania with her four horses, Doberman, Jack Russel and multiple barn cats.
Dr. Vecchione pursued her
Bachelors degree in Biology at Chestnut Hill College, in Chestnut Hill,
Pennsylvania and then went on to obtain a Masters degree in Biology from
Villanova. Dr. Vecchione took all the knowledge and skills she had
previously mastered and moved on to the University of Pennsylvania, where
she completed her veterinary education.
Throughout her nearly thirty
years of work in the veterinary arena, Dr. Vecchione has gained experience
in many widely varied aspects of the field. Not only did she work as
a dog and cat groomer, but she also worked in a small animal clinic,
earning her way from technician to hospital management.
Additionally, she held research positions at a primate facility as well as
within the University of Pennsylvania’s Sections of Small and Large Animal
Surgery. While in graduate school, she found time to manage a barn of show
hunters and jumpers.
Professional interests
include management of the sport horse, lameness evaluation and
reproductive management of the broodmare. Dr. Vecchione feels
fortunate to be part of an excellent practice with outstanding coworkers
and awesome patients!
On a personal note, Dr.
Vecchione enjoys every facet of endurance riding. When she isn’t riding
competitively, she contributes her veterinary skills or supports friends
by crewing.
Dr. Vecchione has an avid
interest in art, particularly creating charcoal drawings. She enjoys
many outdoor activities, including downhill skiing, hiking and camping.
Storytelling around the campfire is her specialty.
